Moose Jaw Train Show vs. Weather

March 23, 2013
It is with great disappointment that we've had to pull out of this years Thunder Creek Model Train Show in Moose Jaw.  It is being held this weekend at the Western Development Museum and since we've been attending, has become one of our favourite shows.

Our reasons for not going are due to the weather.  Over the past week the province has been hit with a great deal of snow and wind which has made parts of the trans-Canada highway (the main route from Regina to Moose Jaw) near-impassable.

We hope to take part in next year's show and wish everyone who made it to the show luck and safe driving!

RPL Workshop: Minifigs

March 13, 2013
This Saturday is our last in a series of workshops with the Regina Public Library at the Connaught branch.

The focus for this weeks workshop is: Minifigure Characterization and Customization!  We will be looking at how to create the characters you'd like to see in Lego form that might not be officially offered within the Lego universe.  We will be using minifigure pieces (heads, torsos, legs, accessories) made by Lego, as well as some ideas about where to find those special custom pieces.

We'll...

Saskatoon Train Show wrap-up

February 26, 2013
This past weekend, the Saskatchewan Lego Users Group took part in the Prairie Rail Workshop-hosted Saskatoon Model Train Show.  It was held at the Western Development Museum in Saskatoon and had a very good turn-out by the public (numbers pending).

Eight of our members took part in the show creating a large 40'x8' train layout, as well as two display tables chalk-full of creations!  We were fortunate enough to earn the Best Non-Scale display award again for our efforts!

Take a look at a few pub...

RPL Workshop: Technically Speaking

February 15, 2013
This Saturday we are hosting our second workshop at the Connaught Branch of the Regina Public Library!

This weeks workshop is geared towards things that move!  Instead of focusing on the standard bricks, our workshop will be showcasing the ways to use the gears and bricks of the Technic (teck-nik) line.  These sets usually feature vehicles (cars, helicpoters, construction equipment, etc.) with gears, motors and other things which create action and allow them movement.

Whether you're a gear-he...

North American Activity

February 11, 2013

Since there are Lego Users Group (LUGs) all around the world, Lego has instituted a team of people to keep tabs on and support those groups.  They've got a blog to track their adventures ( http://ceeteamblog.com/ ) and while on it I stumbled upon the image and list below.  It's nothing all-important, but I found it neat enough to share:

CANADA

AbbyLUG – Abbotsford LEGO® Users Group
ALA – Adult LEGO® Alliance
CLTC – Calgary LEGO® Train Club
MBLUG – Manitoba LEGO® Users Group

End of the year wrap-up

December 30, 2012

This past year was a busy one for our LUG!

We welcomed a number of new members this year bringing our group total up to fourteen members!  We did lose one of our members to re-location, but he is still with us in spirit!

We were also fortunate enough to take part in three model train / hobby shows.  We are always pleased to display our creations in whatever venue we can, and are privilaged to partner with other groups such as the Prairie Rail Workshop in Saskatoon, Thunder Creek Model Railroad ...

Our next meeting!  This will be taking place mid-December in Meacham this year!  Our bi-monthly meetings are a chance to catch-up with one another, talk...

Regina Show: Cancelled

October 3, 2012
Due to events out of our control, the Regina Model Train Show has been cancelled for this year.

The reasons for this have not been explained to us fully at this time.  The group that organizes the show, the Regina Model Railroaders, hope to have things in place for a show next year.  A new venue has been suggested for next year's show.

We are disappointed that we will be unable to showcase our work in Regina this fall.  Our next scheduled show is not until February 2013 in Saskatoon, but hopefu...
