BRICKSPO's 5th year!

On July 22nd - 24th, SLUG presented it's fifth annual summer LEGO showcase, BRICKSPO.  Being the fifth year of the show, we wanted to make it even bigger and better than we had in the past!  More exhibitors, larger creations, more giveaways, more visitors... and boy did it work!

We had 39 Adult Fans of LEGO showing hundres of their amazing creations to the public!

There were 8 large-scale / collaborative builds including Fancon '16 which included the work of more than a dozen builders!

SLUG comes up BIG at Brickcan!

The April 21st - 24th weekend saw many members of SLUG travel to Richmond, British Columbia for the first year of Brickcan!


This LEGO convention was attended by more than 225 LEGO enthusiasts with hundreds of brick-built creations on display for the viewing public!  There were discussions, games and good times throughout the weekend, all focused on the brick!

Marchitecture

The Saskatchewan Lego Users Group is hosting an online building contest on the photo-sharing site flickr.

Participants are invited to construct a real-world building in a micro scale, presented like a LEGO Architecture set.

Kinette's Craft Show

This Saturday, SLUG will be taking part in the Kinette's Winter Craft Show in Estevan!

This will be our second appearance at this show, showcasing various winter-themed creations!  The craft show boasts a number of vendors with great homemade crafts that range from knitting and crochet to tin signs and woodworking!

The Geek Summit returns!

This weekend, SLUG will be taking part in the third annual Geek Summit, hosted by the Regina Public Library.

This event brings together 'fringe' or lesser known hobbies and presents them to the public.  This will be SLUG's third appearance at this event and will also be the location of our 13th SLUG Challenge: Monsterfy a set!  Be sure to look for this and vote for your favourite creation!

Regina Model Train Show - Cancelled

For the second time in three years, the model train show in Regina has been cancelled.  It was scheduled to take place at the Orr Centre again this year, but due to unknown circumstances it won't be happening.

Majestic's Car Show

This weekend, SLUG will be taking part in the Majestic's Car Show in Regina!

This will be our first appearance at the show, which showcases custom and restored vehicles, as well as vehicle related hobbies.  We'll have a pretty large set-up at the show, which will be filled with all sorts of original MOC's, modified sets and other cool LEGO stuff!

SLUG 2015

Our show season for 2015 began last weekend at the Saskatoon Model Train Show which saw 5700 people pass through it's doors!  10 members took part in the show where we took home the Best Non-Scale award for the fourth year in a row!

BRICKSPO countdown!

BRICKSPO, our summer showcase at the Western Development Museum in Moose Jaw is less than 75 days away!

Our annual event has brought in more than 3800 visitors to view the more than 500 creations we have displayed!  We have added a number of public participation elements this year, including:

- a Kids Building Contest for LEGO fans aged 10 - 14!

- building workshops hosted by Bricks 4 Kidz

- lots chances to win great LEGO prizes!

Saskatoon Train Show round-up

This past weekend (Feb 22-23), the Saskatchewan Lego Users Group took part in the 30th annual Prairie Rail Workshop Model Train Show in Saskatoon.  The show was visited by more than 4000 people over the two day event, and our group was voted the Best Non-Scale Award for our 8'x35' layout and added creations.  The 12 members who took part in the show, mark our highest participation at a train show.

Brick Wars!

This past weekend, members of the Saskatchewan Lego Users Group took part in the making of a brand new television show:
BRICK WARS!
We were approached by Access Communitcations, a local TV station in Regina, to film a competition show about LEGO.  Teams of two would compete against each other by using the same LEGO set to build a new creation in a chosen theme!

RPL workshop wrap-up

We have had the good fortune to work with the Regina Public Library for two seasons of workshops.  Each series of sessions lasted for three months, with workshops being held one saturday a month over that time period.

Regina Model Train Show

The Regina Model Train Show starts tomorrow!!!

Held (for this year) at the Saskatchewan Science Centre, the show runs during the operational hours of the centre itself.  Admission to the Science Centre should give you admission to the show!

Due to the limited nature of the space, we will be offereing a 12'x12' layout with train track running through various terrain and themes!  We'll also have a couple other creations on hand that don't quite fit into the layout (scale-wise, not awesome-wise!)....

In just over a week, the Saskatchewan Lego Users Group will be participating in the Regina Model Train Show!  This show was cancelled last year, so we're happy to see it up an running once again!  There has been a change of venue for the show this year, with it being hosted at the Saskatchewan Science Center!  This will only be temporary as the show is assessing new venues for the future.

This past weekend (October 4-6) one of the largest LEGO conventions in North America took place in Seattle WA.: Brickcon.  This event is attended by hundreds of people each year from around the country and the world.  A long-time attendee of this event is our own Ley Ward.

BRICKSPO was a SUCCESS!!!

This past weekend was our second annual showcase, BRICKSPO at the Western development Museum in Moose Jaw!  We had a total of 14 builders take part in the show, including two visiting non-members.  Over 350 creations were on display for the over 2400 public visitors!

BRICKSPO Building Challenge!

With 50 days left to go before BRICKSPO, it is time that we announced this year's building challenge!  This will be our group's sixth building challenge (and one of at least 3 at the show) and will be voted on by visitors to the show.  Our 6th challenge is... a ONE COLOUR BUILD challenge!

Geek Summit

The Saskatchewan Lego Users Group has been invited to take part in Regina's first annual Geek Summit!

Moose Jaw Train Show vs. Weather

It is with great disappointment that we've had to pull out of this years Thunder Creek Model Train Show in Moose Jaw.  It is being held this weekend at the Western Development Museum and since we've been attending, has become one of our favourite shows.

Our reasons for not going are due to the weather.  Over the past week the province has been hit with a great deal of snow and wind which has made parts of the trans-Canada highway (the main route from Regina to Moose Jaw) near-impassable.

RPL Workshop: Minifigs

This Saturday is our last in a series of workshops with the Regina Public Library at the Connaught branch.

The focus for this weeks workshop is: Minifigure Characterization and Customization!  We will be looking at how to create the characters you'd like to see in Lego form that might not be officially offered within the Lego universe.  We will be using minifigure pieces (heads, torsos, legs, accessories) made by Lego, as well as some ideas about where to find those special custom pieces.

This past weekend, the Saskatchewan Lego Users Group took part in the Prairie Rail Workshop-hosted Saskatoon Model Train Show.  It was held at the Western Development Museum in Saskatoon and had a very good turn-out by the public (numbers pending).

Eight of our members took part in the show creating a large 40'x8' train layout, as well as two display tables chalk-full of creations!  We were fortunate enough to earn the Best Non-Scale display award again for our efforts!

RPL Workshop: Technically Speaking

This Saturday we are hosting our second workshop at the Connaught Branch of the Regina Public Library!

This weeks workshop is geared towards things that move!  Instead of focusing on the standard bricks, our workshop will be showcasing the ways to use the gears and bricks of the Technic (teck-nik) line.  These sets usually feature vehicles (cars, helicpoters, construction equipment, etc.) with gears, motors and other things which create action and allow them movement.

Regina Show: Cancelled

Due to events out of our control, the Regina Model Train Show has been cancelled for this year.

The reasons for this have not been explained to us fully at this time.  The group that organizes the show, the Regina Model Railroaders, hope to have things in place for a show next year.  A new venue has been suggested for next year's show.

Regina Show building challenge!!!

Our BRICKSPO building challenge was a hit with seven... and then eight, entires!  Thoughts now turn to future challenges with the next one being for our Regina Train Show appearance (after that Saskatoon, and then BRICKSPO again).

BRICKSPO was a HIT!!!

This past weekend was BRICKSPO, our first solo showcase!

We had twelve builder's invovled in this year's show and over 270 creations!  It's difficult to say for sure, but hundreds of thousands of bricks were on display for everyone to see.

We weren't too sure how many people would come out to see us, frankly, we would've been pleased with a turnout of family and friends.  After the two day event, the Western Development Museum let us know that 1,435 people came through the door!

Prince Albert Show this weekend!

Nathan makes it BIG!

New Year preview

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  It's 2012 and we're got a lot of things going on as a group this year!

We are taking part in FIVE shows this year (our most yet)!  The season kicks off for us in Saskatoon (Mar 10-11) and then Moose Jaw two weeks later (Mar. 24-25).  The hobby show in Prince Albert follows in May (5-6) and then our own show, BRICKSPO in the summer (July 28-29)!  Finally, our year closes with the Regina show in October (TBA).

November Meeting Time

It's that time again...!

This Saturday (Nov. 19th) we'll be having a meeting in Saskatoon!  It'll be a nice chance to get together and talk about all things brick!

We'll be planning for upcoming shows (Saskatoon: Mar 10-11, Moose Jaw: Mar 24-25) as well as catching up on current builds and upcoming sets.  We might even have ourselves a parts draft, so bring your buckets!

Regina Train Show - reaction
